Style, Satire and Society
online, 27 Jun 2023, 19:00 - 20:00
Join exhibition curator Anna Reynolds for this exciting, in conversation style event with historian, writer, and presenter Alice Loxton. Alice and Anna will examine the different ways in which image is depicted in the paintings, prints and drawings displayed in our exhibition, Style and Society: Dressing the Georgians at The Queen's Gallery, Buckingham Palace. Their discussion will particularly explore how the extravagant and ever-changing Georgian fashion was portrayed in outlandish, often scandalous satirical prints by comic artists of the period such as Thomas Rowlandson and James Gillray.
Alice Loxton is a historian, presenter and author with over a million followers on social media. Her debut non-fiction history book, UPROAR!: Satire, Scandal and Printmakers in Georgian London, was released on 2nd March 2023.
